Dani's Deca-dence!
07/11/2009

She's come a long way from Wantirna South...literally, when she used to make the weekly drive to Sandringham. Now playing a little closer to home in Box Hill, we decided to get up close and personal with Bullets dynamo Danijela Mijic after she played her milestone 10th game for the club...

Q: Dani, thanks for joining us today. Let's go back to the beginning. How did you join the club and what were your initial thoughts of the game?

From memory, Luke coerced me to play! ha ha. In truth, Luke invited me to play and I must admit I was a little nervous at first when I saw the calibre of players I would be teaming with. I mean check out the legs on Luke - they truly scared me! :)

My initial thoughts were 'I hope I don't grab anything other than the tags'.

Q: You left behind a promising career on the WTA Tennis Tour to crossover to rec footy...any regrets?

Plenty, when I realised that I could have had a career in rec footy if only I had started sooner!

Q: You've played all over the ground...which has been your favourite position to play?

Love the centre and the anticipation of who will get the first grab (of the ball of course...uh...the football, of course).

Q: Is there any particular moment(s) that stands out as a highlight in your career thus far?

Playing forward last week and kicking an absolute shocker as my first attempt at goal - this was probably my career highlight

Q: Away from the field, you are a very successful life coach. Do you attribute any of that success to your rec footy coach, the great Warren 'Coachy' Burford? Has he been a source of inspiration?

Coachy has been an amazing source of inspiration for me. I have never met someone so supportive, so courageous and so strategic. I attribute all my rec footy successes to Coachy. :)

Q: This wouldn't be reported in the press, but I have noticed after games that you spend a lot of time in the carpark signing autographs for the legion of fans you have. And you always have words of encouragement and motivation for them. Do you have any advice, or a quote, for anyone looking to reach rec footy stardom, like you have?

"
Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."
- Calvin Coolidge (1872 - 1933)

And, finally, a bit of word association with your teammates:

The entire team ROCKS!!!!!
