Margit's Milestone!
23/11/2008

When Margit Gailis played her 10th game recently, we were fortunately granted time to interview her and reflect on her career thus far...

Q. It's been a long time between your first and tenth games. Let's go back to your first game. How were you recruited to the club?

Deep down I've always wished I could be out there playing footy on the MCG with Crawf and Croady, and playing with the Bullets seemed the next best thing.

After my first game I realised it might not be the very next best, maybe the one after.

Q: What were your first impressions of the game?

See previous answer.

Q: You were awarded the best first-year player in 2005, but missed the finals. Was that one of the reasons you came back this year...to experience finals football?

Yes, individual honours are gratifying but the team making the finals is why you play the game (that, and to get out of cooking dinner).

Q: You took time away from the club to give birth to your daughter Heidi and only came back this year. Has it been difficult juggling a recreational football career with motherhood? And has motherhood helped your game in any way?

Toddlers can be demanding at times so it has definitely helped me get on with my team-mates.

Q: How does it feel to finally reach your 10 game milestone?

The pace of the modern game seems so daunting compared to when I started my career so I'm just happy to still be able to keep up.
