Where's Nally?

Shockwaves went through The Bullets camp this week when female game's record holder, Narelle Jones, mysteriously withdrew from the side for the Round 2 clash against The Whitneys. The 21-game veteran succumbed to a mystery bug the night before the game. A number of individuals at The Bullets Football Club are concerned about Jones, who is struggling through a difficult transitional period in her life. Having wedded in the off season to Bullets one-gamer and current doghouse resident Keith Randall, Jones has been finding it hard juggling married life with the demands of recreational football. "The pre-season was particularly draining," Jones said this week as she recovered from her illness. "Keith and I used to sit down on a Wednesday night and do the crossword together...now, we can't do that anymore. It's really putting a strain on things." When asked if she had thought about changing the crossword night to Thursday, Jones said that would be impossible as "that's the night we tackle the Sudoku. And Monday is bingo night and Tuesday we like to do gardening...our schedule is booked pretty solid."

As reported last week, Narelle and Keith are also embroiled in a legal battle with the Boggy Creek Motor Lodge over claims that they damaged one of the rooms during their honeymoon. It comes as no surprise to friends of the couple, who say there is still residing tension over the infamous incident last year when Narelle's then-fiancee played for the opposition against The Bullets. Jones tried to play down the incident at the motel. "Keith and I were doing the crossword and he was struggling to solve six down. We had the letters 'b_ c _ st _be_' and the clue was 'a turncoat'. I yelled out 'backstabber' and Keith flew off the handle. He might have thrown a few chairs out the window, punched holes in the wall, urinated in the swimming pool and trashed another couple's car, but he only did it to prove to me he would never play against The Bullets again. It's kind of romantic when you think about it." Boggy Creek Motor Lodge owner Mort Effide evidently doesn't see it that way, and has filed a claim seeking $10,000 in damages. We will continue to update this story as it develops.
