Wake Up Coachy! Bullets Sleeping Their Way To The Top...Of The Ladder!

If you see Warren 'Coachy' Burford at your local Tandy Electronics store this week stocking up on alarm clocks, it's not because he is worried about not being able to adjust his clock for the upcoming daylight savings. No, while fellow Bullets players, and soon-to-be-wed, Narelle Jones and Andrew Merryweather (not to each other!) start to worry about getting to the church on time, for 'Coachy' it has become a struggle to get to the game on time. On Tuesday night, The Bullets Round 3 encounter against WaSPs began like a nightmare when their illustrious coach, famed for his punctuality, failed to appear by the time the siren sounded to begin the match. However, it turned out to be anything but a nightmare as The Bullets got off to a dream start with Merryweather kicking three early goals.

Speaking at his press conference after the game, 'Coachy' admitted that he had overslept during what he referred to as a "power nap", but what industry insiders referred to as a "nanna nap". And while a couple more goals gave The Bullets a handy lead early in the second half, they were certainly caught napping as WaSPs kicked three straight goals to get back within two points. But Merryweather, who finished with seven goals for the game, kicked two more goals and Dean Jones chipped in with one for The Bullets to be comfortable 20 point winners in the end. The Bullets were again well served up forward by Jones and Merryweather and down back by Narelle Jones (who, despite being quite ill the night before, bravely managed to get out of bed with more ease than her beloved coach) and Rob Hazell (who continued his sterling form). The Bullets also had a new player debuting this week, and if 'Coachy' had the chance during his nap to ask Mr Sandman to bring him a dream, he couldn't have asked for a better debut from Tina Randall. Randall, the sister of Bullets one-gamer Keith Randall (who watched on from the sidelines), played a great game in the centre, even if she had to put up with the disappointed expression on the face of fellow midfielder Luke Barisic that greeted her, who was under the mistaken impression during the week that he would playing alongside Tony Randall.

The win has moved The Bullets further up the ladder to fifth position. Next week, they come up against Hampton Magpies (formerly Hampton Hacks), who they have had some close encounters with in the past. It promises to be a great game.
