Bullets Back From The Dead!

BACK FROM THE DEAD...& BACK ON TRACK IN SEASON 2007

After all but being written off last week, and with another undermanned (sorry, under peopled) side, The Bullets beat the odds and defeated 2005 premiers Pencil It In Again by 7 points in Round 2 action of the SRFL. It was the sweetest of victories for The Bullets, who had never defeated The Pencils in their prior two outings. The win takes The Bullets from 9th to 7th on the ladder, and also seems to have taken the pressure off Warren 'Coachy' Burford. Last week, it was reported that there was "unrest among board members" at the club. It seems that there was some confusion with this story, as we are now led to believe it was, in fact, "unrest among bored members". We apologise for the misunderstanding and apologise to the entire Burford family, who have had their lives turned upside down this week by an overly intrusive media contingent that camped outside their home. It went as far as Channel 9 reporter Craig Hutchinson going through the contents of the Burford's rubbish bin, where he made a shocking discovery and later revealed in an exclusive report for "Rec Footy Classified" that the Burfords don't recycle enough.

Celebrating his 25th game for the club, 'Coachy' put the troubles of the past week behind him and was one of the stars of the win, taking three defensive marks in as many minutes in the dying stages of the game, and thwarting several attacks by The Pencils. He was well supported by Rob Hazell, who found himself in defence after kicking three goals last week. Narelle Jones, returning to the side for her first game of the season, gave The Bullets good drive through the midfield, while star forwards Andrew Merryweather and Dean Jones were also back to their best up forward, kicking three and two goals respectively. The Bullets side is probably the most even it has ever been and it shows in the Vitale Medal voting, where there is a 4-way tie at the top between Hazell, Merryweather, Jones, and last year's medallist, Luke Barisic.

Next week, The Bullets come up against league newcomers, WaSPs at 7:15pm. If The Bullets can win, it will be their best start to a season in club history.
