Close Call For Trevor Barker Oval!
23/01/2007

From the Bayside Leader:

Heat on serial arsonist
Jonathan Andrews

The foreshore firebug may have struck again, with police refusing to rule out a serial arsonist was responsible for another fire in Sandringham last Tuesday.

The scrub fire came perilously close to the Trevor Barker Oval clubrooms and a grandstand. Fire crews were called at 8.30pm to defend the Beach Rd ground after reports of smoke and flames coming from bushland behind the oval. Flames spread to within metres of clubrooms held back by a stone fence and the work of firefighters.

Sandringham police Sgt Alan Kilby said the persistent pyromaniac may have started at least three large fires earlier in summer, although there is not enough evidence to add this latest attack to the arsonist's hit-list. "Until we find the offender, we can't directly link the fires, but there are obvious similarities because of the locations,'' Sgt Kilby said. "We hope there are no more, but one would believe we should expect more until the person or persons starting these fires are caught.'' Nine police units assisted the fire service, with Beach Rd closed for two hours. Police are investigating reports made by members of the public, Sgt Kilby said. MFB southern zone commander Colin Matheson said although a dozen units took two hours to control the fire, it was still being observed on Wednesday afternoon. He said a police helicopter patrol helped monitor the 1ha blaze, as access and water supplies hindered fire-fighting efforts. "It was a very aggressive fire because of the tea-tree oil and there wasn't an abundance of water that side of the highway,'' Cmdr Matheson said. "It came right up to the back fence of the clubrooms. "The fire came very close to taking the whole lot up, but luckily the crews were able to control it.''

The police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of the oval on Tuesday night. Any information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000

Coachy Makes Headlines!
04/01/2007

Sources have confirmed that Warren 'Coachy' Burford was today interviewed in depth for a future issue of 'The Letter', which is the official journal of the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation, or VicHealth. VicHealth is a major sponsor of the SRFL and recreational football in general. Well aware of the meteoric rise of The Bullets, journalist Peter Ryan knew exactly who to turn to when compiling his most recent story.

We will have more details of the article when the issue is released so stay tuned!

Stats Amazing: There's Something About Dani!
01/01/2007

Danijela Mijic has captured the imagination (and perhaps stolen one or two hearts) of Bullets supporters as her profile page was undisputedly the most popular profile page for the month of December. A combination of talent, looks, and charm have made her an instant favourite with Bullets fans...plus somewhere in there is the fact that her's was the first new profile in some time! Rob Rizzo and Debbie Murray, whose profiles were also created in December (albeit a bit later than Dani's) were also very popular with visitors to the website.

The great news is that The Bullets website showed tremendous growth in all areas for the month of December, although these will most likely fall sharply with the season now over. For the month of December, we had a total of 201 website visits, almost double the figure of 106 visits that was recorded for November. The average number of visits per day was 6.48, a significant rise from the average of 3.53 visits per day that was achieved in November. Of those 201 visits, we had 114 unique visitors, up greatly from the 65 unique visitors we had last month. Unfortunately, one limitation with these stats is that the 'unique visitor' count is reset each month, so it is impossible to know how many unique visitors we have had in total since the rebirth of the website. While the majority of our visitors were located in Australia, we did have visits from people in the United States, Canada, and, believe it or not, China! With that in mind, here are the results for December 2006. I've added some comments in italics:

December 2006

Most Popular Day Of The Week:

1. Monday: 8.50 average visitors per day
    Tuesday: 8.50

3. Thursday: 7.50
4. Friday: 6.40
5. Sunday: 6.20
6. Wednesday: 5.00
7. Saturday: 3.20

Most Popular Hours Of The Day:
1. 7pm - 8pm: 10.8% of visits
2. 10am - 11am: 10.1%
3. 12pm - 1pm: 8.7%
4. 8pm - 9pm: 8.0%
5. 6pm - 7pm: 7.7%
6. 10pm - 11pm: 6.9%

In general, evenings seem to be the most common time to view the site, while morning tea and lunch breaks are also popular.

Duration Of Visits To The Site:
last month's percentages in parentheses
0 - 30s: 36.8% of visits (41.5%)
30s - 2m: 11.4% (13.2%)
2m - 5m: 19.9% (16.9%)
5m - 15m: 19.4% (16.9%)
15m - 30m: 4.9% (4.7%)
30m - 1h: 5.9% (4.7%)
1h+: 1.4% (1.8%)

Average visit: 454s (or 7m 34s)

These are great figures as less people are staying for shorter periods of time (visits lasting 0 - 2 minutes) and more people are staying for longer periods of time (visits lasting 2 minutes - 1 hour) compared to last month. Consequently, the average visit for December was up 42 seconds from November.

2. News - 122 (55)

6. Coachy's Corner - 80 (46)
7. Season 2005 Archive - 19 (-)

Again, all of these pages grew in line with the general website growth.

As mentioned as our top story, Dani's profile proved to be quite popular. Debbie and Rob, the other two profiles created this month, certainly stirred some interest among supporters.
