Coachy's Corner: Round 4, 2009

Hi everyone,

The Bullets faced AFLVic again on Wednesday evening. We managed a good win against them three weeks ago, so we were aware they might come out firing. We had a few supporters come down and watch the team this week. Joining Dan on the boundary were Georgette Conti, John-Paul Shanley and Desma, John & Zoe Burford.

We started Simon, Narelle & myself in the back half, Dani & Brent in the centre, and Andrew & Luke up forward. It was a great first half for us with Andrew & Luke kicking eight goals between them - Andrew 5 and Luke 3. Simon was brilliant again in defence, stopping just about everything that threatened to be marked and putting pressure on his opponent when the ball was in AFLVic's scoring range. On top of this, Narelle also kept her opponent kickless, as she's done before, by not moving off her once. Brent & Dani continued to get plenty of possessions and set up, along with Simon & Narelle, the team's large half time margin. AFLVic had two goals on the board, so we were a fair way ahead.

For the second half, Luke & Narelle teamed up in the centre, Brent went back, and  Dani & I went forward. And for the third time this season, the game was virtually over five minutes into the half. The ball wasn't in our back half very much and Brent & Simon made sure it didn't stay there long if it was. Andrew was very good up the ground as a real focal point and Dani took some terrific marks in her first mach forward this season. She ended with two goals, Andrew added another three for 8 majors and I slotted one late in the half. Luke took some good marks in a congested centreline, while Narelle was also good taking a couple of great marks with every possession being effective. It was a 64 point victory, 97-33.

Positives for me were Simon continuing his great form - he was just as solid as last week, committed, and playing in front of his opponent. Brent's first half was excellent - and nothing wrong with the second either. Luke's marking all day, plus three quality goals in the first half. A couple of marks Narelle took (one being excellent) and improved kicking, Andrew's hard work up the field and Dani's two goals is making for a very good season so far.

Best Players: Simon, Luke, Andrew, Dani, Narelle

Apologies to Brent.
