Coachy's Corner: Round 3, 2008

Hi everyone,

GAJ were The Bullets opponent this week in the 6:30pm match slot. The return of Andrew Merryweather, Narelle Jones & Rob Rizzo was a welcome sight, plus the debut of Brent Jones, brother of Narelle & Dean. We were playing a side who was also yet to win a game and in slippery conditions, it was going to be tough. In a quiet half for The Bullets, the team only managed two or three behinds to be trailing considerably at the change. Positives for the half were; Robbie Rizzo taking a couple of marks from leads in the forward line, Brent having a good first half down back, taking a couple of strong marks & finding teammates by foot, Luke and Narelle holding both their own in the middle and Andrew slotting in well in defence.

We swung Andrew to the forward line and Margit went to the back half to oppose GAJ's female goalscorer, except the goalscorer had moved into the middle and they replaced her with a much taller girl. She ended up getting on top though, through "gift" passes and her height was an advantage. Not to be outdone, Margit came back with a great mark in front of her opponent plus a couple more possessions. Andrew was very lively up forward, with many possessions and a goal. He worked pretty well with Rob, who was pushing up the ground and they were both targets for the team. Midway through the half, Rob took a spectacular mark, playing in front, he jumped straight up and snatched the ball from his opponent in a huge stretch of arms. Dani, whom I asked to stay near goal, made the most of her opportunities snaring three or four marks and finishing with two goals. Our midfield pair fared pretty well with Narelle playing a good game. She won the footy by hand and foot, as well as taking three or four marks. Narelle's handballing is working well, dishing it off to Luke who was consistent all match, taking plenty of marks.

The score was 27-61, but the main thing is to always get positives out of every game we play.

Best Players: Luke, Andrew, Narelle, Dani, Rob.R
