Coachy's Corner: Round 1, 2007

Hi everyone,

Welcome to season 2007. The Bullets kick off this year after a successful '06 in which the team won six out of ten games and finished 5th on the ladder out of ten teams. It was an improvement from season '05, where we had also improved from 2004. The club welcomed back Elodie O'Connor for her second game for the team, and we hope there will be a couple of other new players join in 2007.

Players who can't be with the club this year are David Beattie, who is struggling in getting his general fitness to Rec Footy standard at the moment. He contributed and fought on for the team superbly last year with fitness concerns, and has reached a decision to stand down. Dave will be an emergency this season. Lucy Burford is another who won't be playing this year due to moving to the UK in July. We hope to see these players out on the ground and around the club again at some stage.

Round One

The Bullets first game for '07 was against Meeniyan. Rob Hazell starred in the first half with three of the first four goals. Dean, who played the match in defence, was solid as was Luke in the centre. Elodie won possessions down back, but we were way behind at the break 18-45.

Due to the Bullets only having one female available for the week, Elodie moved to the centre with Luke. Andrew kicked two goals up forward, with Rob contesting well. Dean was terrific in the second half with bursts out of defence and using the footy effectively. Luke and Elodie were competitive but we lost by 55 points, 30-85. A disappointing result for the side but we look forward to next week and regaining a couple of players back into the team.

Best Players: Luke, Dean, Rob, Andrew, Elodie.
